How to Stop Focusing on Stress-Related Pain

Here are some tips to help you ease the tension and relax:

  1. Listen to a CD with soft, soothing music while lying down in a comfortable position. Close your eyes and try to relax. This helps many people to reduce stress and stress-related pain.
  2. Squeeze acupressure points between your thumb and index finger for a few minutes on your right hand and then do the same on your left hand. “Women’s Health” magazine says a study at Hong Kong Polytechnic University revealed that acupressure can reduce stress by up to 39 percent. Acupressure is something you can do instantly to relieve stress fast.
  3. Take a warm shower or a relaxing bath. Afterward, put body lotion on and rub around where the pain is. The aroma will calm your mind and relax your muscles helping calm the pain.

If necessary, Flavor your tea with honey, sugar or lemon to make it more satisfying. “Women’s Health” magazine reports on a study conducted at the University College in London, where 75 participants drank one cup of black tea before undertaking two stressful activities. The study revealed that 47 percent of the participants had lowered Cortisol levels. Cortisol is a steroid hormone that the body releases in response to stress.
  5. At the end of the day, try to limit TV time. If you are overwhelmed, try to limit watching the news. Instead, you can get up to date by receiving news on the net and scanning the headlines. It is less time consuming and will take no more than 15 minutes to scan local and national news. It can be just too negative, and you can still know what’s going on.
  6. Finally, Get a good night’s rest. Write down your thoughts so you don’t have to think about them. You need to be rested so that you can relax and recuperate.
